Sometimes I’d Rather Watch Reality TV
Confessions of a Church Planting Wife (Part 2)
If I had to, I could live without a TV. Ninety percent of my day is lived TV free. But I love my Good Morning America. And other than that, I must confess, I’m completely addicted to reality TV. I don’t know why, but I can’t seem to shake it. And I bet some of you can relate. . .

When Trista and Ryan got married, I was there. When Emmitt and Cheryl won the coveted Dancing with the Stars mirror ball trophy, they did so because I voted for them every single night, using up all of my votes on 3 different phones as well as the internet. When the next FoodNetwork Star was crowned, I cheered, and every time Jeff Lewis “flips out” I can’t help but laugh. Between all of the bachelors and bachelorettes, Big Brothers and Amazing Races - not to mention the life of Jon and Kate Plus 8, I find myself hooked every time.

There is just something about entering into another person’s life for a brief time and escaping the reality that I call my own that beckons me at the end of a long day. Sure, it’s great entertainment. But why? Why is the attraction so strong sometimes? I personally think it’s about the escape.
As church planting wives we are on a never ending roller coaster ride. Some days it’s thrilling. Some days it’s terrifying. And a lot of days it’s completely exhausting. Some days all we really want to do is escape and let “Calgon take us away.” Of course, we aren’t the only ladies who experience these emotions. We live the reality of life just like anyone else. But I have to tell ya, I’m so glad that at the end of the episode I get to enter into my own reality again. Unlike so many of the TV shows, this life is truly real. It is a life of walking alongside the Creator of the universe and continually stepping out in reckless abandon - trusting what can not be seen and observing what can only be orchestrated by a God that is bigger than all of my crazy days. Can you imagine if they were to make a reality show about us?? I personally think it would be a national hit! Watch out American Idol. Wait ‘til you can see what WE can do!!!

Today I just want to encourage you. I hope you will rejoice in the call that God placed on your life. Embrace it, whether today is a thrilling day or the most terrifying of all. What a privilege it is to walk in true reality next to the Creator of all reality. I really hope you enjoy the walk. And if you stumble, don’t worry. The cameras won’t be watching. ![]()
Just for fun. . .please tell me I’m not alone. . .what’s your favorite reality show?

Well, we have not had TV, ever in our married life. It started as a financial decision, and then we got used to it. But when I can sneak it in at other houses I like So You Think You Can Dance. Ironically, or obviously, I have zero dancing knowledge or skill. Maybe that it what is so entertaining about reality TV--real people who do things we don't get to do.
I agree wholeheartedly with you that life with God is more an adventure than any TV show could ever portray. He takes us on wild journeys that far outreach our own imaginations. What He has in store for us is bigger than what any writer could manufacture. So wonderful...and a bit scary at times too.

We watch Biggest Loser on Tuesday and Americas got Talent on Wednesday!! We are so bad we have to DVR it for Bryce (our 9 year old) because it on past her bedtime. She watches it when she gets home from school the next day. Pretty bad huh? And John and Kate plus Eight doesn't count - that's therapy!
