For some of you this may not be new, but when I discovered this site I knew I had to share it.  We all get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, no matter how hard we try not to let it happen again this year.  So it’s October and this is my challenge to you. . .decide now. . .let this holiday season be different!  Then share your stories with us.

Make sure you check out Facebook Group!  It could change your Christmas!  It could change everything. . .

Do you have any other good ideas to share about how you, your family or your church get “intentional” during the holiday season?

I love this idea. Have you done it before? The concept is fantastic, I am just trying to work out the details in my head.

I am trying to buy all my Christmas gifts this year from Christian places that support adoption, particularly international. Mainly I am trying to buy from adopting parents who are selling their goods online and using the proceeds for their adoptions.

Our church cancels everything for all of December leading up to Christmas, save Sunday service. No community groups, youth groups, etc. This way everyone is freed up to BE in their communities and attend events with neighbors, and to GIVE to those who are most discouraged at that time of year. I guess the hope then is that people will actually do those 2 things!

My husband and I plan to do more community service that month in order to meet more people and minister to more needs. We also plan to focus our attendance on events involving neighbors and my daughter's classmates and their families, rather than church friends' parties.

At home we have always taught our kids the value of giving, and at Christmas we ask them to dig even deeper and give more. We each donate several things that seem important to us. Although we enjoy gifts (!), we take the focus off of them and focus more on giving to others. We also bake a birthday cake for Jesus, and use it to tell the account of His birth.

@Carlee - I love the idea of buying from people who are supporting or trying to raise $ for adoption. Thanks for sharing the ideas.

We have one son who is 18 months. We are starting a tradition where we give only 3 gifts at Christmas. It represents the three gifts the Wise Men gave Jesus. We don't have it all figured out yet, but we are working through it. We may do a creative arts gift, an educational gift and then just a fun toy gift. Not sure yet. This will be the second year that my husband and I give money to purchase items through Heifer International or Samaritan's Purse. That is our gift to each other. I love the idea of buying less. I am thinking maybe my we can make a fun family gift with my son for our parents.

@ Michelle - cool idea! We do something very similar in our family. My husband is from Puerto Rico and they grew up celebrating Three Kings Day. It's the first week of January. It seems as if itis almost more of a celebrated day than Christmas in Puerto Rico. Basically, the night before, the kids go out and pick "grass" (more like a mixture of dead leaves and yuck from the winter ground) for the camels that the 3 kings will arrive on. They place a box outside of their door with the grass. The story goes that at night the 3 kings will visit. They leave one very special and meaningful gift for each girl and the camels eat the grass before moving on. It's a bit silly, but this year i am trying to figure out a twist on this holiday of us giving something very special to someone or some organization just as the 3 kings gave very special gifts to Jesus.
