Connecting for Glocal Transformation

The Future of the Church - The Global Church

Last night we ate supper at Oscar Muriu’s home. It was a lot of fun. Omar spoke and did awesome. Later today we’re going to ride through a game reserve. Jack Sara from Palestine also spoke--what a powerful story. This is an utterly incredible conversation--a book could be written on it. One of the biggest ideas is the reality that the church is really not connected globally. Denominations and mission agencies are, but not the church. I’m sitting with the church--major leaders from all over the world and we believe this is the future. I wish young pastors were here. I MUST get them together with these guys. These are totally different conversations than the American Church and they are having conversations separate and apart from ours. We are the loosers. The problem is we don’t want to listen, and they don’t take us serious.

    Bob,

Would they (the church leaders you are talking about) be willing to interact thru an electronic bulletin board? Could they post cooperatively on a blog, so that we can see their conversation in the future?

    Just a thought.

    Bob,

This is some great stuff your feeding us here. You spot on. What can we do to connect with these guys. I sat in on a video tele-training session last night through http://www.shapevine.com; maybe we could connect via them or do something very similar. That would be awesome! Keep the good stuff coming!

    Richie,
We will be rolling out some new communication tools very soon that will be able to connect people around the world. Keep watching this site in the coming weeks for updates!

    Bob,

Buckner desperately wants to be a part of this dialogue. Our experience is telling us that the American church is not understanding the work of God on a global scale. We see willing hearts everywhere but connecting the willing people to those who are doing the work is difficult. Help us know how to come along side as a servant in the process.

Count me in. Not technically young (44) nor a pastor (yet?), but hoping to be there (I'm at Western Seminary in Portland). Going to Liberia in Oct with our church, Imago Dei (http://www.imagodeicommunity.com) to broaden some partnerships there in a number of areas, including with pastors. Bob, I'd love to do what you're doing - connecting the western church with the majority world church so we (west) can learn from them and rethink what our role in the body is.

    Jambo fellow Texan,

Pastor Oscar preached a sermon at Urbana 2007 that I think all interested should hear - it's still on the Urbana site. It will make us (American pastors) mad, but it will shed more light on what Bob Roberts is dialoguing about, and the truth will resonate deeply.

Not sure how much longer you're in Kenya, but I found a nifty wireless attachment that uses the cell phone signal. Works great! We're here for 10 weeks, and will be having a weekly discussion with some young pastors and other professionals/leaders on cultural transformation towards a Biblical worldview (discipling nations concepts). The fun part will be that we are not seeking an African nor an American values system, but a Biblical one! We're a small network out of deep South Texas, but if we can connect with your contacts here we would love to build on what you've started!
