Phil Busbee at Home with Jesus

ShareE-mailVisit Guest Book
Phillip D. Busbee Born: June 4, 1954 in Abilene, Texas Deceased: June 27, 2009 San Francisco, California “Blessings not Condemnation” was the heart cry of Phil Busbee, Sr. Pastor at First Baptist Church of San Francisco, since 1999. Phil was a church planter and mobilizer. He held a Bachelor of Arts from California Baptist College in Public Administration and a Master of Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. In an article in the Baptist Press 2004, Russ Bredholdt, Jr., wrote of Phil: “Afflicted with physical suffering that at times has been life threatening for him, there is a greater concern than his personal health. What weighs more in Phil Busbee’s life is this: a burden and passion for people who inhabit San Francisco’s 49 square miles, but do not know Christ. What do Mother Teresa and Phil Busbee have in common? Each took seriously the call to be like Christ. The more they conformed to His will and way, the more they have made their world different. Mother Teresa learned early on, and as Phil Busbee knows very well, it is ” ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ ” says the Lord.” (Zechariah 4:6). Phil’s thirty-one years of ministry experience has included service as a youth minister, minister of adults, church planter, superintendent of Riverside County Christian School System and Senior Pastor. His ministry has been marked by a burden for world evangelism and a heart for prayer. He sought to raise new leaders and had seen nearly sixty individuals respond to the call of full time global and local ministry under his leadership. Phil was a regular presenter at mission conferences and in Perspectives courses. He was also a speaker, worked as a consultant and facilitated prayer events leading to renewal, revival and reconciliation throughout the body of Christ. He is survived by Claudia, his wife of thirty-one years, and his daughters Alexis and Ashley Busbee; also by his mother, Betty J. Busbee, of Houston, Texas; sister Debra G. School and husband Curtis; and brother Gregory N. Busbee and wife, Tara, as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Floyd Darvin Busbee, September 11, 2003. Friends may visit Monday July 6, after 5pm at DUGGAN’S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. Phil was a great leader. He came up to help me equip some college leaders at a retreat back in 1999, and did an incredible job. More than that, I was inspired by his love for the Lord, and his passion to see the people of the Bay Area in relationship with Christ. I am glad you brought this to all of our attention today so that we could be motivated by his life.
