Off to Meet God!
I’m leaving tomorrow for a retreat for spiritual vitality and health. That’s all it is - no engagement, no speaking, no teaching, no training, none of that - solely to meet God. I’m excited about it. It will be with a small group of men where we hide out with God and one another and just pray and seek God. I have what I would consider a fairly strong daily worship time. I got into that discipline when I did something similar more than ten years ago - so I’m really looking forward to this.
I’d encourage you young pastors to get away, just you and God, as often as you can. We prioritize so many things - I’ve learned my daily personal worship is the most critical. I’ve also learned getting off alone with God in settings like this is also vital.
To pray, reflect, and focus on God for who he is, not next steps, or strategic planning, just to encounter God, it doesn’t get any better than that. I believe that over the past 20 years we’ve become better “churchmen” and “leaders” - I’m not convinced we’ve become better “men of God.”
I’d like to ask all of you to pray for me for God to meet me and for him to speak powerfully to me. So, I ask you NorthWood, preacher buddies, and anyone else who wants to pray for me - to do so. Pray that God will say what he wants unencumbered by my own inability to hear him or dark spots in my life that would prevent him.
On another note I’ve had an incredibly profound reflection, realization, reading . . . . on authority and submission - a small book by Watchman Nee . . . . You can hear the sermons on the web at northwoodchurch.org
