In Church Planting Less is Mor
Steve Addison and I have been hanging out some at this conference. He is one awesome guy. His new book on Church Planting Movements is really good. Something hit me yesterday. I have yet to read a single book on movements or church planting from anyone in the East. Isn’t that a little strange? Aren’t they the ones with the movements? Yet, we have written about them, telling others how to do it - yet we don’t have a single book? There systems in terms of assessment, coaching, traning, and supporting are far less than ours - yet they get more. They don’t count on money and they get movement. They are assessed by call alone. Coaching is prayer, and training is OTJ. I’m not sure there is a clear enough strategy to put in a book or to sell packets or fill conferences. Maybe they have something - maybe in church planting - less is more. Could it be?

Bob in my heart I know that we have so much to learn from the east but are we really willing to let go of all our stuff here in the west to allow for a movement? Tough choices we will truly have to make. These are ones that I want to say yes too but when I really look at myself in the mirror - OUCH! It does start with prayer and sustains with prayer - lets get busy praying!

Bob, you might like to read "Breaking Tradition to Accomplish Vision: Training Leaders for a Church-Planting Movement" by Bobby Gupta, who is part of a huge church planting movement in India.
