I’m Back . . . . !
It feels so good to be back home. This was a long, busy, and, in some ways, hard trip--yet incredibly fruitful. I have a lot of work to do from the trip, but all of it is engagement that makes a difference in the world. Several people told me they saw me on CNN, I didn’t see it. If you find the link let me know. I made a lot of new friends that are on the same path from the Middle East to South Korea. It’s amazing how God is bringing all our paths together. We are all very different in our expressions of the church, yet we all have the same passion for Jesus and vision for the world. Two people I really appreciate in all of this. . .
My wife - Nikki. I don’t like being away from her, maybe it’s because our kids are gone now and she is my home. When she met me at the airport yesterday, decked out in her jeans and red blazer and black turtle neck - woooo baby . . . . . But beyond that--her prayer, her walk with God, her faithfulness, her servants attitude to so many women and pastors wives in our church, her “give ‘em all you got Bob” kind of spirit - I couldn’t do these things without her. Some women, are really beautiful when they’re in their 20’s and after that it’s all down hill, not just looks, but Spirit and attitude, and maturity. God gave me a wife who is a class act--her beauty outwardly is more than matched by her beauty inwardly. Thank you Father for my wife. (Nikki, we need to talk about that BMW motorcycle later today! - just kidding!)
Chris Seiple - I’ve been with him a lot in delegations and meetings and etc. We are constantly interweaving our networks and relationships - we both do top down and bottom up engagement - but his speciality is top down and mine bottom up. His is more the realpolitik diplomacy, mine is more the realpeopleola connectatoa. He really loves God, thinks deeply theologically, debates vigorously sensitive issues when we are alone, and doesn’t mind laughing at me a lot. Two weeks is a long time to spend with someone - we had a blast. How he does diplomacy and how I do church is very different in our world - combining the two according to our strengths and then creating something new and unique has had a lot of power. I’m excited about where this is leading. We did Vietnam together the past couple of years, then the Middle-East - a long way to go there - but there’s this other place we keep talking about. He has his contacts and invites there and I do as well - I think they’re about to come together--hopefully God will give us a little more time before they do.

Bob, I don't think I can move my family to Texas (it's been hard enough moving them from San Diego to Portland, OR)...any chance you could move here?!?! I'd love to be mentored by you, hang with you, engage the world and church with you. My passion in those areas and my resources for doing so just don't seem to match up. I keep looking for ways to engage in and through our church here (Imago Dei) and through my work with financial advisors, but the balance of work-family-seminary-church-engagement is frustrating.
I'm blessed to be working alongside some financial advisors who are serious about their faith and integrating that in their work. Their work with clients focuses significantly on "true wealth" - the intangibles of wisdom, knowledge, values, relationships, etc. - and communication within the extended family; it's good stuff that lays the foundation for how to handle the financial side of wealth. I hope to get more involved in that "true wealth" side in the coming months, but my passion remains the church...strengthening her, engaging her, calling her to engage the world.
Between Imago Dei's significant focus on the lower segments of our society, Shane Claiborne's book "The Irresistible Revolution", and what I am learning from the latter prophets through my seminary class with Dr. Ray Lubeck...WOW! God really cares for the oppressed - the poor and widows and orphans....
Pray for me for wisdom and for patience as I wait for God's timing for my own involvement in his greater mission. Thanks for leading out as you are, and writing about it so those of us not in Texas can be led and mentored by you even if you don't know it.

I too echo Randy's comments, here in Canada we face the same apathy in the church. But you are inspiring and stirring a greater passion within my soul to do and be more thru the Holy Spirits working within my life. Keep writing and most of all continue pushing back the veil so the church can see it's full potential in Christ. God bless you and your ministry richly.

Bob, you will never know just how much your life and the lives of those who serve with you have transformed my life. I attended the Turbo conference--Big Mistake--I came alone. I was unsure of just what you would share but I have not been able to rest since. There has been a stirring in my spirit for the churches that I labor with to see them become transformational. I plan on attending the next Turbo but not alone.
Thank you for being so transparent. You are in our prayers. God bless you and those around you.

I'm glad that this stuff has inspired you guys - BUT - God created you for your own story and it's far far more exciting than someone else's story. There is a unique thumbprint God made you with. Just be obedient daily to what he puts in front of you. I'm an average man at best - if you were around people I work with and family -they'd tell you. It's dumb-founding to everyone I've known for years - especially me - why God has allowed me to be a part of the things he has. Obedience and endurance with God will take you places you never dreamed of, expected, or thought of.

I would like to express my agreement with Charles W. I always find it refreshing when someone is so transparent with their emotions and passions. You have definately found your niche in life and it shines through and runs over onto everyone around you. (Attended Turbo)
Thanks to everyone who put in so much preparation for out Turbo training. Keep us posted as some of us are planting seeds and are praying that they will sprout.
