Humanities Lowest Common Denominator
Last night I flew back to Dehli, I’d been in other parts of India. When I got in the cab, the driver prayed in the Hindu tradition - which I’ve never seen. That bad ha? I asked. With his accent he said it was very bad - no comfort! This morning as I was running I was thinking about that man and ran past Muslims, Hindu’s, and who knows what else. God, he is truly the one thing all men believe in regardless of how they see him and all long for - because they need help and meaning beyond themselves. But then I thought of what Jesus said, “When I come will I find faith on earth?” Before God, there is faith, which is belief, if not hope that there is more and we cannot give up. Yes, there are athiest, but as I was thinking about the very few, I thought of how there really were only 2 kinds, one who was disappointed God didn’t come through, and one who has built a philsophy around it. The ones who build a philosophy around, have made a terrible error as I thought about it - the same criteria by which they do away with God also does away with faith and love - all the unseen things that make life worth living. If you can’t believe in God, neither can you believein others - because all require faith.
