HOW TO GET IT ALL DONE . . . . .
I’m often asked by pastors, church members, and just people how do I do what I do. One young pastor asked me how I write, preach, travel, etc., - I told him, I work hard. People want a simple formula or strategy but the reality is the more you do, the more you have to focus. Everyone who does a lot, lives by the same principle. Wesley, Whitefield, Churchhill, Lincoln - all had the same 24 hours to get it done. The answer isn’t can you do what you need to do, but are you willing to focus, then discipline yourself to do what you need to do. Most people think we were created to be successful or change the world 8 to 5, five days a week - and if we can’t do that, we must be doing something wrong. Pick your management tool, Covey, daytimer - whatever, they all work. The easy part is knowing your vision, purpose, strategies, priorities, team, resources, and developing that yearly plan. The hard part is executing. That’s the question. Here’s the answer. . . .
First, I begin every day in prayer early in the morning. I get quiet before God, read his Word, journal and listen. I pour out my heart over everything going on. I look at my action plans. I review everything. I mix in anything I think of. My daughter sent me this and I loved it . . . . watch it . . . .

Second, prioritize for the day. What has to be executed to keep me on my path. Those priorities for that day become what success looks like each day. If I don’t do that - I’ll have notes on everything but it’s so much it’s overwhelming. This helps me take it a bite at a time.
Third, I go run. I clear my mind and my thoughts where I can really relax and let go of lots of unwanted energy.
Fourth, I delegate all that I can. With those that work with me, I know what action points they have to have done for the whole team to move forward.
Fifth, I pace myself. I don’t do 3 appointments in a row on 3 different subjects. I try to pace meetings and appointments in a way that changes the normal routine.
That’s just some of what I do . . . what do you do?

Thanks for the info and tips, especially about starting with prayer, and staying focused on a few top priorities. I find if I don't do the same, I get little done and can waste a lot of time on minutia/tyrrany of the urgent. By the way, the link to the video is broken ~ would love to see it, if you can repost. Thanks again!

Sixth, reflect on the day over a giant bowl of Blue Bell. (You forgot that one).

I just realize it doesn't all have to get done now, and it doesn't all have to get done by me. Life has stages. Right now, I am in the "get a job, work hard, love my wife and kids" stage. Do I want to write and teach more? Yes. But that may have to wait until retirement and the kids are raising their own kids.
