Help the Philippines!!!!!
This week I have 2 pastor friends right in the heart of all the crazy stuff going on globally with the floods and hurricanes. Brian Bloye in Atlanta and David who has a little church of 24,000 in Manilla. David is a part of a small fellowship of guys that I meet with – if you can help them in any way – do it! David just sent me an email and included this letter in it - it has all the contact information.
From David:
You probably heard it through CNN, BBC and other news organizations that Metro Manila, and most of the northern part of the Philippines have been declared in a state of calamity due to a powerful and destructive Typhoon ‘Ondoy’ which has happened 24 hours ago. Literally hundreds of thousands have been dealt homeless.
For those of you from the U.S., you would remember hurricane Katrina. To some degree, that’s what Metro Manila is experiencing right now. Thousands of people are being provided temporary shelter in public buildings. My wife and I had been stranded for almost 24 hours. Our car was trapped in the mudslide on a bridge. Thank God that 12 men saw us and helped us get out before the flood waters swept us over that bridge! We had to literally climb hand and foot over mud slides and over the side of a cliff just to reach our home!
Our experience, however, is nothing compared to those of tens of thousands of our brethren and others whose homes or what little they had, were totally submerged or swept away by the rampaging floods. According to our weather bureau, Metro Manila has experienced a whole year’s rainfall in eight hours!! – the worst disaster in more than 40 years!
At Hope General Hospital, the entire ground floor where we have the reception area, pharmacy and emergency rooms, laboratories and x-ray, had been submerged in five-foot deep water which came in from the streets. We sustained damages to hospital equipments and machines.
I am coming to you with an outstretched hand to ask for your help for disaster relief, to help us assist many people—provide food, medicines and dry clothing to our needy brethren and others who had been left homeless because of the devastation. You may send your donations to the account number below should the Lord speak to you to make a contribution. Please let us know of your gift so that we may immediately begin to extend help to those who are in need. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
An example of what we’re going to give, depending on the amount available: $10 will provide a family of 4 or 5 - rice, milk, noodles, canned goods, sugar and coffee good for four days.
Thank you vey much for your heart of compassion and your partnership in bringing relief and hope to people in desperate conditions!
Sincerely in Christ,
David A. Sobrepeña
