Connecting for Glocal Transformation

Hearing God’s Voice - Recognizing his Ways

I find myself in “unusual” situations often where I’m meeting with someone from another country or place in the world and they need help or something unique.  The reality is, as many things as I’ve responded to, or connected for others, for every one thing I get involved in, there are ten I have to say “No” to.  I’m often the least likely person they would normally be prone to ask for help or want to connect to and visa versa.

Knowing whether to say “Yes” or “No” to someone is huge.  Sometimes you just need to get to know the person, and often doing something small together is a good indicator of the future.  I’ve learned it’s critical to build the relationship, but just as critical is determining how to partner or ally.

How do you know what to say “Yes” and “No” to beyond the typical traditional management techniques?  Here are some things I look for . . . .

1.  How unique is this? How many people are going to have this opportunity or access to make a difference?

2.  What was I reading in my personal worship time this morning was there anything in God’s word that correlates?

3.  Is this the first time this country, person, idea, or situation has been before my mind or did it come up earlier and now there’s an opportunity to go with a seed that had been planted?

4.  Is there a long-term relationship or something of significance that this could lead to for the Kingdom of God?

5.  What is present beyond the immediate opportunity?  Are there other things that this could lead to that would impact other people and places?

6.  Does there have to be an immediate answer, or is there time to have others confidentially pray about the matter with me?

7.  Do I have the ability to respond or is this something I am going to have to grow and/or learn?  And is it within the realm of God’s calling or is it a distraction?

8.  Do I have a sense of this is a “God moment?”

9.  Is this a place or area that I’ve had on my heart or something that I’ve wanted to learn about?
