goHUB
Look down on the right . . . See it? . . . the red logo and box . . . . click it . . . . register . . . . get ready to change the world. . . .
If you’ve heard me speak or followed this blog, you know we’re serious about engaging the world and seeing a transformation take place. For me, it’s not just service projects or just doing good works to feel good about myself or our church. It’s about living out the kingdom of God on this earth using all my skills, talents, abilities, and influence to see, as Paul wrote, “the reconciliation of all things. . . ”
It’s what we’ve practiced as a church in the world, what I practice as an individual, and what I challenge churches, and others as a whole, to practice. We, including me, a practitioner, David Grubbs, a sharp technology guy who is learning the world, and Al Weiss, a businessman who’s helping us fund this, are about finished with the site.
BUT, this isn’t your normal “Christian” social networking site for volunteerism. As a matter of fact, it’s not just “Christian,” though we three are. It’s for anyone who wants to change the world. Most of the Christian world bands together to go “invade” other spaces and do christian work in other places. We don’t. We band together with Muslims, Bhuddists, Communists, Socialistis, Hindus, Athiest, and anyone else who wants to change the world to make a difference. As a Christian, I do what I do in the name of Christ and don’t keep it a secret, but neither do I segment myself from others because they are not Christian. As a Christian, I respect other viewpoints, as well, that doesn’t mean I have to agree with them always!
I began to realize this as we worked in Vietnam and worked with the government leaders, business leaders, health leaders, education leaders, agriculture leaders, etc. not necessarily or exclusively “Christian leaders”. Therefore, if there’s going to be a site/platform to connect people of different worldviews, it has to be one that not only a Christian would use, but a Muslim or Hindu or Athiest. It would need to be one that not only a capitalist would use, but a communist or whatever the government is.
Salt and light is to be scattered throughout the world AND SOCIETY, not segmented in a “religious” section or context. The faith discussion for us takes place as we become friends and serve each other.
Other people can use the web-site, as well, not just Christians. Not just religious organizations, but social organizations, etc. It’s a platform.
I’m excited about it because whether I’m working with Muslim leaders on projects in the Middle East, or government leaders in Vietnam, it’s a site/platform we can all use to create face-to-face relationships around the world to engage and serve humanity. As a Christian, I, obviously, will do what I do in the name of Jesus, but I will respect others in their views, as well.
Dennis Jeffares and Omar Reyes have an entire track that has been developed for churches to help pick a place in the world to work as a church and work with the society, not just segment it off to “religious” work. They travel and teach this in churches and with groups across America. goHUB will become the platform we use to connect churches, volunteers, and others to individuals, projects, and people around the world.
Lot more to come on this later . . . . this is just a snippet to encourage you to sign up for it when it’s released . . .

Will businesses be able to use the platform to make a difference in their communities? Can we use the platform to interface american kids with kids in vietnam to learn the language of globalization early?

Bob,
I think a missions connection center like goHUB is much needed. I was talking to someone this week who has retired and wants to plug into missions in a more significant way but isn't sure how. What a great service!

Yes Ben - we can do all that - you can even help us do it if you will . . . .

This has been a long time coming. I am so excited to see Go Hub launched. I expect God to use this tool in a major way to change the world.

People all over the world need this type of connection so that we can put people in touch with people. I have personally seen that when people talk about projects it gets some response, but when they see their unique gifts and personalities being used with another human being--then this intersection is the fuel for a passion and relationships that carry on into eternity. Let's do it--

@ Jordan,
Gohub is built on a lamp stack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAMP_(software_bundle)) and will be hosted on a fully staffed virtual private data center to provide nearly unlimited scalability at a moments notice.
Our temporary splash page (http://www.gohub.org) is in flash but the full gohub site will launch with a photoshop/div/css front end for fast load times and performance no matter your internet connection (even in Africa).
Gohub is essentailly a social network, a project management site, a global online marketplace, and a organization management tool all wrapped into one and with the purpose of impowering individuals to change the world. The initial launch will include over 60 unique functions making it one of the most feature rich and robust sites on the net.
I can't let the rabbit out of the hat yet but we are excited and looking forward to launching before the end of the year.

What a great pathway to bring hope and healing for those who are enslaved with behavioral and chemical addictions. Building bridges across what were previously thought to be impassable barriers will allow those who are passionate about recovery reach out to people who are held captive to anger, fear, depression, or drugs find freedom. Sharing a passion while respecting differences can and will allow for recovery to take place.

David,
Unlike Jordan, I don't need to know how it works. Just let me know when it's up and running!

Can't wait to see how GoHub connects people who truly want to change the world, and motivates them to action! This will be good. Love it.

This is, quite simply, a potentially world-changing concept. David notes on Facebook that the organization is now an IRS 501(c)(3) organization, so anyone who wanted to help with funding would receive the tax benefits for their contributions.

I really like what you all are doing with Go Hub. We have created a network for such people who are doing business with mission in Europe. We believe that the next wave of missional development in Europe will be through belivers from all over the world living and working intentionally in Europe. Thanks for your work on Go Hub. I like it.

I think the mission of GoHUB is as honorable as it gets.
Good job, as it is everyone's mission to help those when they need it.
