Football - The World’s Global Sport
Yesterday after both services, I was at the first sporting event at the new Cowboy Stadium with a group of lawyers and some friends along with my sister and brother-in-law who put the event together and man did we have fun!!!! Our skybox was just down from Jerry Jones – we waved and I got to visit with his son Steve. We watched Mexico and Haiti play – Omar was Mexico all the way. Sherman was with us and since being in the US wanted to visit Mexico but it didn’t work out. The stadium was packed to capacity at 90,000!!! I told him, since you couldn’t go to Mexico we brought Mexico to you.
Some observations:
But what we call football and what the world calls football is very different! We call football – football! We call soccer, soccer – they call soccer football. Not even Jerry Jones could stop the globalization of the sport. I sat there thinking – 20 years from now, I’ll bet there are far more soccer games played in here than football. Is Jerry Jones global? I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter – he may not get global, but global got him!
Jerry Jones was getting the stadium ready for the Cowboys. They were watching everything – I mean everything – sound, seating, flow, lighting, all of it. He was using us as guinea pigs to get all the kinks worked out – but frankly – I didn’t see any kinks. You can learn a lot from that man about vision and execution.
I didn’t hear any local news stories about 90,000 mostly Mexicans filling up Cowboy Stadium. How could that go so un-noticed? What pulls them together? This sport. They are here – and we need to all realize our old ways of interacting with one another will not work for the future. Respect and engagement – just like I’ve learned working in other parts of the world.
I’m not sure when the first Cowboys game is there – but I want to be there. I’m calling on all intercessors to pray aggressively to put me in the sky box to get to see the game!!!

Well...I suppose we'll see in 20 years. But they've been hailing the ascension of soccer since I was in high school. Hasn't happened...no matter how many kids play the sport. But we'll see. Besides...a good futurist like yourself can't be right about everything.

I am a huge futbol fan...it will be interesting to see if it ever ascends football. There is no comparison of the salaries and endorsements in the US. I too have heard soccer will take over since the 70's (Dallas Tornado's anyone, Kyle Rote Jr.). It hasn't happened, I wonder if that says something about America. You should read...
HOW SOCCER EXPLAINS THE WORLD:AN UNLIKELY THEORY OF GLOBALIZATION by Foer
I am heading there next week for the spectacular game of Chelsea vs. Club America (MX team). CA pulled an upset on Milan Sunday so they are headed in with a lot of points. I HATE Chelsea (and ManU)(Liverpool forever---go Fernando Torres) and hope my South of the Border friends disassemble them (in Christ's love, of course).

How to speak about soccer, I mean, futebol, without mention brazilian team! America may have the best in every sport but futebol: this belong to us (brazilians).
Course I'm teasing because of the Us vs Brasil matche in South Africa. Yes, US was in the final! They beated Spain! Made 2 goals in Brazil. But nothing more: Brazil 3 x 2 US. HEHEHEHE...
Friends, the best: most of players of brazilian team are christians. They know their responsability. They know the power of futebol, and they are seeking to show good exemples for all nations. I can cite KAKA, for exemple. His a good man.
Next year is the World Cup in South Africa, and 4 years after that, in 2014, the World Cup in Brazil. My City is a place game! Everyone is invited to come.

Samuel, you mean 4 x 2. They refs blew the call where it bounced off the back side of the top pipe. You guys scored 4 in one half, but then isn't that how you guys play. "We'll put it in cruise control and take it easy" then all of a sudden "Oh crud, we'd better start playing." You guys are famous for that.
Also, one bed reservation please for 2014 and a ticket if you can scab one..haha.

It is not about soccer ascending in the US, it is about the US being absorbed unto the global playing field. Soccer has 3 billion fans worldwide and in about 2015 white americans will be the minority in Texas. Guess what sport minorities embrace? In 2010 the world will converge in South Africa for 4 weeks to celebrate football. Jerry Jones has seen the future and it has mucho dinero. We must wake up and realize that we live in a post-american world. Soccer the round ball is global- Football the egg shaped ball(played with the hands) is simply just local.
