At Islamic University of Gaza
I am at the Islamic University of Gaza with the faculty of Medicine and Dr. Mofeed M. Mokhallalati along with Imam Husam Khalil Ayesh They started their medical school 3 years ago and it is very impressive. There are some great opportunities for Western Universities to partner if they are willing - yes there are challeges - but none that can’t be overcome. It’s worth it, if you believe in it.
B: What is your vision for the medical school?
Dr. M: My vision I would like our medical school to be a reference for medical practice in Gaza.
B: What is your biggest challenge?
Dr. M: The shortage of experienced well-qualified faculty teachers.
B: Would you accept Western professors who wanted to come for a semester to teach here?
Dr.M: With great pleasure. I myself am a Western graduate and have the Irish citizenship! I gradutead from the College of Surgeons in Ireland.
B: I have been told that there are over 500 Phd degreed Palestinians in Gaza - is that true?
Dr. M: It’s more than that.
B: I’ve also been told the Palestinians are some of the most educated people in the world - and that your literacy rate in Gaza is non-existent - is that true?
Dr. M: Yes, but not the most. It is because our difficult situation our main tools. Our main resources in fact is education.
B: I have been very impressed as a westerner with the Gazan’s I have met. There are many stereotypes that I have found are not accurate. I am hopeful that you will have a fantastic future.
