THE BIGGEST LOSER COMES TO NORTHWOOD!!!

Ok, it’s true, I’m a little . . . heavy shall we say?  Pleasingly plump, weight challenged – well, let’s call it what it is. . . . fat!  So when Laurie Graves had the idea to do the Biggest Loser, we didn’t talk about all of these weigh-ins and an actual competition.  This year is the year of multiplying disciples at NorthWood.  The first month we focused on putting on our Identity in Christ, who he says we are and how to live it.  This month the theme is putting things off that rob us of our walk with God.  We are calling it losing it – around the metaphor of “losing it”.  Your challenge can be an addiction, a habit, or an attitude that doesn’t glorify God.  We are focusing on how to get rid of all that.

Each Sunday we are having someone who won or competed on the Biggest Loser.  To begin the series, and each week for the next 3 weeks, we are having weigh-ins.  We are divided into two teams and are all on diets and exercise programs.  NEVER in the history of Northwood have I seen people get to church 15 minutes before the service, but we did Sunday!  You can go to northwoodchurch.org, click Media to see the service for yourself.  It’ll be up by the end of the day today.

I’m going to keep my blog going for the next 30 days and each day keep everyone posted on how it’s going – part of being accountable.  So to begin with, I weigh 259 lbs.
Yesterday I ate 1800 calories – I did extremely good except for a small piece of chocolate cake frozen from last Thanksgiving – I got rid of it!
This morning I worked out on the elliptical machine and went 5 miles in one hour and 3 minutes 8800 steps & burned 970 calories!  Pray for me people – this is gonna be hard!

Bob,

15 months ago I started using a personal trainer and went to the gym religiously 3 times a week. It’s been the best thing for me. I’ve not lost much weight, but I’ve lost fat and increase muscle.

I think we pastors have far too long neglected fitness and nutrition while telling people to get rid of their habits. Good for you bro. I’m praying with you, for you. Just do it.

Pray while you do it. fiscal83

Bobby,
I am, and will continue, to pray for you. Your last sentence “It’s gonna be hard” should not suprise anyone. The word of God tells us that we will go through “hard times” to do things for the Kingdom…to Glorify God. That’s what you are doing. I’m proud of you, and God is there to sustain you. Keep them chubby legs moving. You can do it!
